Westbound Erie Mining empty ore train approaching Murphy City

Two RS11s power a plow extra on LTV Steel Mining Company's mainline to Taconite Harbor prior to the late March opening of the shipping season. This would be LTVSMC's final year.

The last operating Erie Mining RS-11 is used by Cliffs Erie to power a "clean-up" train that is picking up bad order and MOW cars off the line prior to its being shut down.

The 7AM tac. job nears Hwy. 1 at Murphy City for a trip to the dock at Taconite Harbor. Even back then, it was a special treat to see the '6 packs' of solid F's leading the moves.

A plow extra opens the LTVSMC mainline for the last time in March of 2001. The plant closed that year and the last ore train under the LTVSMC banner ran in July.
